The South Beach Diet

When I think of diets, The “South Beach” one always pops up in my head, although, I've never been familiar with it, I often hear woman mention its great results. So here I'm sharing with you what’s so popular about this particular diet.

I visited The South Beach diet web page to find an answer, I encounter my self with a “gift” for beginners, which includes, a free weight loss plan: all you have to do is answer a few questions about you height, weight, age and body type, then they will calculate what kind of steps you need in order to reach your goal.
Great but I still didn’t know what The South Beach Diet is all about, so I kept looking and found that: South Beach Diet teaches a way of life where you rely on the right carbohydrates and fats. This new way of eating allows you to live contently without eating the bad carbohydrates and fats. In contrast, when a person eats bad carbohydrates and fats they feel hungrier, causing them to eat more, which causes weight gain. The diet promises an 8 to 13 pound weight loss in just two weeks!

There are basically three phases in SB Diet:

  1. First phase: You eat normal portion sizes, but all carbohydrate is restricted. This is the strictest phase in the diet and will last for two weeks. It emphasizes lean meats, such as chicken, turkey, fish, and shellfish. Low-Glycemic-index vegetables are allowed as well as low-fat cheese, nuts, and eggs. Dieters should expect to lose somewhere between 8 to 12 pounds.

  2. Second phase: Some of the banned foods are slowly introduced while weight loss continues to around 1 to 2 pounds per week. You should remain on it until you lost your desired amount of weight.

  3. Third Phase: It’s all about, maintenance and should be followed for life. It’s all about maintaining your desired weight with a healthy balanced diet. Should your weight begin to climb, simply return to the first phase.

In addition to all the steps to follow, The Diet offers you over 80 collection recipes to give the daily diet some variety, and a food list of Do’s and Don’ts.

My favorite recipe is Balsamic Portobello Mushrooms. Look it up.

missthinwallet: I say, after trying almost every diet out there, why not give this one a chance. you may be surprise with the results.

Five reasons not to drink Coca-cola

First of all. If you want to shed some pounds, get rid of cellulite, have a beautiful smile and an overall healthy lifestyle; make sure your fridge has not Coca-cola products on it.
All kinds of sodas in general are very high on sugars and chemicals that not only make you fat but unhealthy too. (Especially the dark ones.)

So, before you read this, think of five reasons you drink Coke?
I know I know there are probably only two right?
1. It tastes good.
2. You grew up with the habit.
Well, now you have the chance to make a difference and teach your own kids not to drink this poison.

There are way more than five reasons not to drink Coke, but I like to show you the ones you should be most concern about:
5. Dental Erosion: All the sugar and coloring is not good for your teeth. Ask your dentist. Even if you drink sugar free soda, the acid content in sodas can be destructive to enamel tooth surfaces.

4. Kidney Damage: Researches demonstrated that large quantities of cola result in enhanced kidney stone formation.

3. Soda does not satisfy thirst: Many commercially and popular brand sodas contain sodium. Sodium is a form of salt and makes you thirstier.

2. Liver damage: There is evidence that consumption of too many soft drinks puts you under increased risk for liver cirrhosis similar to what chronic alcoholics have. The preservative sodium benzoate may be the cause.

1. Extra pounds: Soda contributes to overweight and obesity. Drinking one can of soda a day can add more than 1 pound of weight gain every month. A single 12-ounce can of soda has as much as 13 teaspoons of sugar in the form of high-fructose corn syrup. 97 calories per can.
Missthinwallet advise: Water is the best way to go, however if you definitely can survive off water, try other soft drinks with less preservatives like home made iced tea and natural juices.

BTW models on soda commercials really drink milk and water…Ironic huh???

Shape up while you walk...

As I was walking trough Palm Beach Garden’s mall I found myself staring on a shoe store’s window (not Aldo), where the main item advertised was Sketcher’s shape up shoes! The latest invention on fitness outwear .Although they are sore of dorky looking, they are heavier than most athletic shoes, so you will burn little more calories per mile, as you simply walk.

They basically work by putting you off balance.

The heel is set slightly lower than normal shoes and the bottom of the shoe is curved, so your muscles are constantly working to keep you balanced.

Benefits of wearing shape ups:
  • Promote weight loss: if you lace them up and get moving while also watching your diet.
  • Reduce cellulite and tone thighs: walking in these shoes is allegedly great for the thighs
  • Firm buttocks muscles.
  • Improve posture.

Prices run from $110 to $140 depending on the model but if you go to Amazon there are offers from $98.

As shape ups become more popular, more colors and styles coming out to the market, not only there are shape ups sneakers but sandals, boots, flip-flops and more.

Whether they work or not, still remains as a question. Many people assure they have great results while many others disagree.

Missthinwallet resolution: I gave it lots of thinking and honestly shape ups are not in my shopping list quite yet...I’m not so convince with the style.

How to avoid Halloween candy overindulgence

Halloween is getting closer and closer and we all know this frightening, yet fun celebration is all about the delightful treats no one can resist to.

After we reach certain age the main concern on Halloween night is trying not to fall in the sweet temptation of candy, but don’t worry all it takes is a little thinking and pre-planning.

Tricks to resist temptation:
  • Wait to the last minute to buy the candy you are planning to give out to the neighborhood kids, that way you don’t fall into the temptation to eat them all.
  • Try not to buy goodies you can’t resist, so if you are crazy about m&ms buy lollipops instead.
  • After Halloween night is over, toss out the leftovers, that way you don’t have them haunting you the following days.
  • Chew gum: Sugarless gum gives your mouth a burst of sweet sensation for very few calories.

If you think it would be impossible to resist the goodies, plan a 911 workout session. Hit the gym and try these steps for 45 minutes on the treadmill.

  1. Warm up and walk easily for 3 minutes
  2. Power walk for 2 minutes
  3. Run fast for 4 minutes
  4. Repeat step 1 and 2: 8 times
  5. Cool down walk 2 minutes

To find out which are the most tasty and popular Halloween candy check out mydessertaddiction! Best blog on goodies.

Missthinwallet treat: Buy gummies. Gummy worms are a wonderful treat for Halloween. They’re low in calories. In fact, one gummy worm only contains 32 calories.

Sushi- One of the healthiest foods in the world

Sushi is known as one of the best inventions from Asia. Although, sushi is most commonly linked to the Japanese heritage, it actually began in China during the 7th Century.

When I hear the word Sushi I think yummy… Not only sushi is inexpensive but quick to make. Sushi could be categorized as fast food, even though it does not have nearly half as many calories a cheese burger does.

So the good news is that sushi is not only delicious, but it's also healthy. For all my sushi lovers reading this blog, I found the exact number of calories on some of the most popular sashimi (no rice) or maki (rice), and while it depends on how much you eat, a sushi restaurant is certainly a safe place for someone who wants a healthy meal.

  • Avocado Roll 140 calories / Fat: 5.7g / Carbs: 28g / Protein: 2g
  • California Roll 255 calories / Fat: 7g / Carbs: 38g / Protein: 9g
  • Cucumber Roll 145 calories / Fat: 0g / Carbs: 30g / Protein: 6g
  • Spicy Tuna Roll 290 calories / Fat: 11g / Carbs: 26g / Protein: 24g
  • Shrimp Tempura Roll 508 calories / Fat: 21g / Carbs: 64g / Protein: 20g
  • Salmon & Avocado Roll 304 calories / Fat: 8.7 / Carbs: 42g / Protein: 13g

If you buy sushi at school or at the little restaurant around the corner, a roll of 6 to 8 pieces could cost around $6 and at a fancy restaurant it could cost $10. As you might notice there isn’t much difference. There is no way you can’t go broke with sushi.

Check for the closest sushi restaurant in your area, go to Cityguide a great search engine.

Missthinwallet says: Sushi Siam Yama is my all time’s favorite restaurant in Boca Raton; I usually get the Osama roll (salmon tempura, avocado and cucumber). Tell me which is your favorite?

The myth about low calorie drinks...watch out, 1 gm of alcohol has 7 calories.

TGIF! you are off the clock and ready for happy hour... Hold it; I haven't been searching the best ways to stay thin so that you go and ruin it in less than 2 hours...no way. However, with a little planning, you can avoid diet disaster, and there are some alcoholic drinks that are relatively low in calories.

I have been bar-tending for the past five years, and let me tell you something. I have not yet understand, why is it that most women won’t eat a piece of cake, still they dink between four to five glasses of wine or cocktails in a single night.

If you want to find out about the best low calorie drinks, then you are in the right place.

Top three low calorie liquor drinks:

Vodka-club soda splash of cranberry juice:

The Vodka and Cranberry is a very popular cocktail, but juice can pack the calories and sugar on. Switch it out with a tiny splash of cranberry light and the calories stay off, making this drink a winner at 140 calories.

2. Cosmopolitan:

The Cosmopolitan can be made easily. A Cosmopolitan is four parts vodka, two parts triple sec, two parts cranberry juice (use light), and one part lime juice for a tasty low calorie treat.150 calories

3. Mojitos:

This low calorie alcoholic drink is making a popular comeback. A properly made Mojito has only 160 calories and 15 grams of sugar, and it is a tasty treat. Use brown sugar for fewer calories.

Fitness Magazine has a variety low calorie drink recipes, check them out and throw your own low calorie party!

Try to avoid the following:

  • Drinks with heavy in cola
  • frozen/creamy drinks (pina coladas, apple martinis)
  • mixers (eggnog, red bull)

Beer Belly: You can easily exceed 500 plus calories once you start drinking more than two bottles of almost any brand of beer.

Missthinwallet tip: Although red wine is delicious and healthy, you are better off with whites if possible, spritzers this gives you less alcohol but more volume to drink.

Cheers,

What’s the difference between a morning and a good morning?

Every morning when I wake up my stomach starts growling, it’s like I have a monster inside my body starving to death, luckily enough I have the kitchen just few steps away from my room.

Once I stand at the kitchen door, I find myself in the middle of a decision making torture. “mmm should I eat a bowl of special k fruit and yogurt, red berry waffles or a strawberry cereal bar.”
Btw today I chose the red berry waffles!!

Eating a balance breakfast will get your metabolism going, and help you eat less throughout the day. No wonder why breakfast is known to be the most important meal of the day.

Kellogg’s has been around since 1906, however it wasn’t until the past few years that the company came up with a nutritious program called Special K challenge whose main purpose is to help people manage their weight.

Thank god I belong to this generation! We actually have many options to choose from.

Among the different Kellogg’s products most of them have only 90 calories per serving, see nutrition facts on each box:

  • Flavor cereals: Original, vanilla almond, fruit and yogurt, cinnamon pecan, blueberry and chocolate delight.
  • Original and red berries’ waffles.
  • Multi-grain crackers.

  • Cereal bars: strawberry, honey nuts, vanilla, chocolate pretzel.

  • Protein shakes: Strawberry, French vanilla and chocolate.

  • Protein water mixers: strawberry kiwi, iced tea and pink lemonade.
